Abstract/Contents:Presents third year data of study conducted at Texas A&M University to evaluate shade stress performance and overall turfgrass quality of 14 tall fescue varieties. Visual estimates were based on two primary components: (a) uniformity of appearance and (b) shoot density. The rating scale was 9 = best and 1 = poorest with a rating of 5.0 or above representing acceptable performance for lawns. Statisical differences were not evident among the 14 cultivars, however, slight seasonal differences did occur. Rebel and Jaguar remained the top ranked tall fescue cultivars in terms of turf quality, followed closely by falcon, adventure, and houndog. Rebel has consistently ranked at or neat the top while Brookston and Galway have ranked consistently near the bottom.
