Abstract/Contents:Presents possible steps to take in preparing turf for the winter, including "late fall fertilization," stating that it will "benefit the turf by producing good carbohydrate levels...encouraging early spring root growth, providing good fall and spring color, and producing good turf density to compete with weeds next spring." Suggests "chopping up leaves," explaining that it may help "the turf by returning nutrients and organic matter." Also suggests that "October is the ideal time to control broadleaf weeds because the weeds are storing carbohydrates in their root system and are more susceptible to herbicide applications."
