Abstract/Contents:Study evaluates turfgrass quality, evapotranspiration rates, leaf widths, shoot densities, leaf extension rates, canopy orientation, spring greenup rates, fall low temperature color retention, and seedhead formation of 24 bermudagrass cultivars in seventh year results at Texas A&M University in 1985. Tifway, Santa Ana, and Tifgreen have consistently ranked high in overall visual quality (1-9 scale). Everglades, Texturf 1F, and Tifgreen produced early spring green-up consistently. Tifway, Santa Ana, Tifway II, and Tifgreen II exhibited late fall color retention. Tifway II, Texturf 10, Texturf 1F, Tifway, Ormond, and Santa Ana are light seedhead producers. Tifdwarf has the narrowest leaf width, the highest shoot density, and the slowest leaf extension rate. Canopy orientation ratings showed tifdwarf to have the most horizontal growth and Arizona Common had the most vertical growth habit. Evapotranspiration rates were closely related to canopy orientation with horizontal growth habits having lowere evapotranspiration rates and near vertical growth having higher evapotranspiration rates.
