Abstract/Contents:Presents a study conducted to demonstrate "the influence of seed size, emergence time, growth rate and proximity of neighbours [neighbors] in determining the position of individual cocksfoot plants in the dominance hierarchy." Describes the experimental procedures of the study, stating that "horticulture trays 22×38×5 cm [centimeters] were filled with sand and sown with cocksfoot (Dactylis glomerata) 'seeds' in a random arrangement, at a rate of 3.3 seeds per cm2." Describes two more experiments, detailing the procedural methods used and reporting the results of each. Concludes that "from this series of experiments it can be concluded that, during the emergence of a monospecific seedling population, a dominance hierarchy is set up, and this severely influences the...development of each individual."
