Abstract/Contents:"A series of experiments were performed on bermudagrass (Cynodon sp.) and bahiagrass (Paspalum notatum) to study interactions of turfgrass cultural practices and herbicide affect on turfgrass growth, quality, and weed control. Experiments were performed during July, September and October, 1986. Plot sizes and statistical design varied with experiments. Normal turfgrass cultural practices were used except when it was part of experimental design. All herbicides were applied at 1 gal/1000 sq.ft. With the first mowing experiment, bermudagrass quality was lower at one week after application regardless of days to application after mowing. Effects were not evident at 2 weeks after treatment. Growth rates were unaffected. Bahiagrass quality was affected only when treated at one day following mowing. Growth rates were reduced from controls regardless of application time. With the second mowing experiment bermudagrass quality was best where mowing occurred at one day after application. Growth rates were reduced for all imazaquin treatments regardless of mowing interval after application. Irrigation interval affected bermudagrass quality. Quality was reduced at the 0.50 lb ai/a rates for the shortest times before irrigation only. Growth rates were not affected. Bermudagrass quality was lowered by imazaquin + sethoxydim and imazaquin + fluazifop-butyl combinations. Imazaquin + MSMA gave better turf quality than imazaquin alone. The best control of yellow nutsedge (Cyperus esculentus) and rice flatsedge (Cyperus iria) was with imazaquin + MSMA + bentazon. All imazaquin treatments gave excellent control of purple nutsedge (Cyperus rotundus)."
