Abstract/Contents: | Profiles Australia's oldest golf course, the Links at Ratho, near Bothwell. States that "the precise date of the establishment of the links at Ratho is yet to be determined - either in 1822 when the Reid family first settled Ratho or in 1842, when they returned home to Scotland." Explains that "in the early period of golf at Ratho, from the 1840s until the turn of the twentieth century, there was no formalised [formalized] club...There may well have been no defined course from week to week at Ratho." Notes that "the original spirit of the course is perhaps best epitomised [epitomized] by the original 9th hole which was a long bogey 4." Mentions renovations at the course started in 2003. |
