Abstract/Contents:Presents a study conducted to "1. ascertain the influence of Aqua-Gro and Rubigan on Poa annua infloresence development in a Penncross bentgras sward"; "2. ascertain the influence of Aqua-Gro and Rubigan on Penncross bentgrass turf quality, leaf temperature, and resistance to disease"; "3. determine the effect of Aqua-Gro on soil physical properties." Details methods and materials used in the study, stating that "four regimes of Aqua-Gro were applied to four regimes of Rubigan in factorial design to a mature Pencross creeping bentgrass turf maintained at 1/4 inch mowing height. Nitrogen at 7 lb. [pounds]/1000 sq. ft. [square feet] was applied to the turf with balanced phosphorus and potash during the experimental year. Pesticides were applied as needed to control weeds, disease, and insects." Reports that "spring applications, alone and in combination with fall, of Aqua-Gro significantly reduced Poa annua infloresence from May to July...On the average, the spring regime reduced seedheads by 32%, whereas the fall regimes averaged only an 11% reduction. Fall application of Aqua-Gro did not appear to reduce Poa annua infloresence in the spring. The only reduction of Poa annua seedhead with Rubigan was in June with the fall regime. At no other time did any of the Rubigan regimes cause a significant reduction of seedheads."
