| Abstract/Contents: | "There is a need for a rapid and complete method of searching weed science literature. Present systems normally have a minimum turn around time of 24 h and are limited to articles published after 1969. An easily accessible and complete database would increase the efficiency of time spent searching literature. An accessible database has been developed for the journals of Weeds and Weed Science called WEEDLIT. This database uses a commercially available software program. WEEDLIT is a database containing all articles in Weeds from 1952 to 1967 and Weed Science from 1968 to 1986. Each record within the database contains information from one article. An indiviual record consists of author(s), title, journal name, volume, page numbers, along with the crop(s), pesticide(s), weed(s) and keyword(s) which are relivent to that article. Requirements to access WEEDLIT include a computer capable of running ms-dos with a minimum of 128 K of RAM and PC-File/Rtm (commonly available software). PC-File/R is a copyrighted program developed by Jim Button software and is used to access the WEEDLIT database. Searches take approximately 15 minutes to complete on an IBM XT and can be completed in less than 10 minutes using an IBM AT or a similar computer. This database is convenient, it can be utilized in any office with a suitable computer. The program used to access and update the Database, PC-File/R, is easy to learn and operate." |
