Abstract/Contents: | "SQUADRON is a prepackaged combination of pendimethalin and imazaquin under development by American Cyanamid Company. SQUADRON is formulated as a 2.33 lb/gallon CE (Concentrated Emulsion). Each gallon contains 2.0 lbs of pendimethalin and 0.33 lb of imazaquin. The use rate of 0.895 lb ai/acre is equivalent to 0.75 lb/acre of pendimethalin and 0.125 lb/acre of imazaquin. SQUADRON was extensively field tested across the southern United States in 1986 under an Experimental Use Permit. The SQUADRON formulation was compared to a tankmix of pendimethalin (PROWL (TM)) and imazaquin (SCEPTER (TM)) at labelled rates. In the tankmix, the imazaquin rate was 0.125 lb/acre at all locations while the pendimethalin rate varied from 0.75 lb/acre to 1.50 lbs/acre, depending on soil type. All treatments were applied PPI. Weed control ratings made at 8-12 weeks after treatment indicate similar levels of control between SQUADRON and the pendimethalin plus imazaquin tankmix on all species evaluated, regardless of the pendimethalin rate in the tankmix comparison. Good to excellent control (85-100%) was observed on barnyardgrass, broadleaf signalgrass, seedling johnsongrass, smooth crabgrass, Texas pancium, bristly starbur, cocklebur, common lambsquarters, common ragweed, pitted morningglory, prickly sida, smallflower morningglory, redroot pigweed, and Pennsylvania smartweed. Fair control (60-84%) was observed on Florida beggarweed, entireleaf morningglory, ivyleaf morningglory, spotted spurge, coffee senna, and sicklepod." |
