| Abstract/Contents: | "AC 263,222, [2-(isopropyl-4-methyl-5-oxo-2-imidazolin-2-yl)-5-methyl nicotinic acid], is a new broad-spectrum herbicide with low mammalian toxicity that is being developed as an industrial herbicide by American Cyanamid Company. Extensive field testing had shown that AC 263,222 controls a wide spectrum of grasses, sedges, and broadleaf weeds under a variety of environmental conditions and soil types. This compound had its greatest activity when applied preemergence or early postemergence to weeds at rates ranging from 0.28 to 1.2 kg/ha. AC 263,222 has excellent soil residual activity for 6-18 months depending upon rate and local environmental conditions. Field results indicate excellent activity on many important perennial species such as field bindweed (Convolvulus arvensis L.), johnsongrass (Sorghum halepense (L.) Pers.), trumpetcreeper (Campsis radicans (L.) Seem. ex Bureau), and yellow nutsedge (Cyperus esculentus L.). AC 263,222 is being tested for toal vegetation control on railroad tracks and other industrial situations. In addition, preliminary results have shown potential for AC 263,222 in release of certain perennial grasses along roadsides and utility rights-of-way." |
