| Abstract/Contents: | "'Kentucky 31' tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea) growing in the alleyways on the Bradford Farm, Columbia, Missouri was proved to be a host to barley yellow dwarf virus disease (BYDV). Recovery of the disease both in November and the following April suggests that tall fescue may serve as an overwintering host. Recovery was higher from tall fescue leaves with leaf yellowing symptoms than from leaves collected without regard to discoloration. When tall fescue seedlings were inoculated with BYDV, strain Champaign 6, using English grain aphids as the vector, typical BYDV leaf yellowing symptoms were produced. Festuca arundinacea had previously been reported to be a symptomless carrier." |
