| Abstract/Contents: | Studied effective control of quackgrass and wirestem muhly originating from seed through pre-plant incorporated (PPI) and pre-emergence (PRE) in field crops. Various trials were conducted on 12 different herbicides in greenhouse conditions to test either control or negative effect upon the agronomic crops they are growing with. The majority of the herbicides gave good to excellent control of quackgrass from seed. All PPI treatments except trifluralin at 0.25 kg/ha and pendimethalin at 0.5 kg/ha gave acceptable quackgrass control. Alachlor, metachlor, pendimethalin and oryzalin give excellent control; pendimethalin performed better PRE than PPI. Chloramben and the triazine herbicides failed to control adequately. In the trials to control wirestem muhly, linuron and chloramben failed, all PPI treatments gave excellent control and only PRE treatments of chloramben and metrabuzin failed to give adequate control. Overall in wirestem atrazinxe and cyanazine gave the best control. Includes 3 tables listing the control for quackgrass and wirestem muhly by each herbicide. |
