Abstract/Contents:Discusses mound and plate maintance. Emphasizes that "the plan of attack is daily maintenance. First, develop a plan to make sure they are protected during batting practice." Mentions that "there are portable mounds and numerous pads, blankets and other protective materials that can be placed over hitting and pitching areas. These should be available on-site and used every time." States that "another big issue is tarping. Many irrigation systems have zones that cover the infield and come in contact with the mound and home plate. They have to be tarped to remain dry during irrigation." Discusses hand tools and how they "are essential for mound and home plate maintenance." States that "clay bricks are now available from multiple sources where just five years ago few groundskeepers had access to them. The bricks are used to form a firm, hard base for key areas of the home plate and mound." Concludes that "if everything is done correctly, there are absolutly no holes, after a game, just some depressions."
