Abstract/Contents:States that "all soils consist of sand, silt and clay. The infield mix is the combination of these components plus any conditioners or additives." Explains that "all three components are neccessary to attain a safe and playable field that is easy to maintain." Discusses two ways to get a sand, silt and clay analysis, suggesting to "submit a sample of [the] infield mix...to [a] local distributor, soil testing lab or...local Ag [Agriculture] Extension service." States that "most mixes consist of a minimum of about 60% sand to a maximum of 70% sand and the balance silt and clay." Provides a list of the basics of infield care, including sand particle size, nail drags/scarifiers, water management and dragging patterns." Discusses how much moisture the dirt can handle, suggesting "turf managers wanting to achieve a consistent playing surface capable of taking in large amounts of water while remaining playable should do three things: test the composition of [the] current infield mix, add an amendment to balance [the] silt and clay content and then record [the] results in games played throughout the season."
