Abstract/Contents:"A new disease of American beachgrass (Ammophila breviligulata) along the Outer Banks of North Carolina is described. The disease is characterized by circular dead areas of beachgrass that continue to enlarge each year. As a result, sand in protective dunes is exposed to wind and water erosion. Disease surveys and pathogenicity studies indicate that the disease is caused by a Marasmius species. Marasmius blight of American beachgrass is the name given this new disease."
