Abstract/Contents: | Presents the various sources of traffic on sports turf which causes wear, compaction, and/or injury to the turf. Specific footwear types are discussed as to turf requirements for playability and how they injure the turf. Major special events on athletic field also create additional traffic. Effects of traffic are discussed on two levels: 1) Macro-effects of worn surfaces, color loss, loss of turf density, lack of resilience; and 2) Micro-effects of shearing, turf injury, compaction, and wear. |
