Abstract/Contents:"On Aug 9, 10 insectisides were applied to 5- by 10- ft Kentucky bluegrass plots located in a golf course rough at Lincoln, Nebr. Topography in the treated area ranged from level to a gentle slope, and predominant grass species was Kentucky bluegrass (95%). Thatch accumulation (finger compresssed) ranged from 0.25-0.5 inches. Field conditions at the time of application were as follows: air temperature, 82 degrees F; soil temperature (#-inch depth), 85 degrees F; soil type, silty clay loam; soil organic matter, 3-5%; soil pH, 6.7; water pH, 7.0; soil moisture was well below field capacity. Granular formulations were combined with 6.7 oz. Milorganite, which served as a carrier, and were applied with a hand-held shaker over plots. Liquid formulations were applied with a CO2 sprayer with an LF-4 nozzle at 28 psi and 3 gal/1000 ft2 spray rate. Milorganite (6.7 oz) also was applied to liquid formulation-treated plots and untreated controls. The experiment was replicated 4 times using a randomized complete block design. Immediately following insecticide applications, the test area was irrigated with approximately 0.75 inches water. An additional 1.35 inches of irrigated water was applied and 1.37 inches of rain fell during the posttreatment period. Product efficacy was evaluated 14 DAT (23 Aug) by removing 2 1-ft2 sections of sod, 4 inches deep, from each plot and counting the number of survivng NMC. All treatments resulted in statistically significant reductions in NMC numbers. Mocap 5 G and 10 G, Triumph 4 EC, XRD429 1 G, E4242 10 G, Diazinon 14 G, OFtanol 5 G, and Turcam 2.5 G all provided > 85% control. No phytotoxicity was observed."
