Abstract/Contents:Discusses damages on a golf course, stating that "turfgrass shows the first affects of injury and weakness, but it's the soil which sustains the greatest damage inflicted by typical golf course traffic." Briefly profiles Duane Sharpe, golf course superintendent at Blackhawk Golf Club in Edmonton, Canada, stating that "he is forced to employ many more directional devices, such as signage and roping, than he would ideally prefer." States that "while water is essential to stimulate turf-grass recovery, Sharpe is quick to point out that too much water actually aggravates compaction and promotes additional problems." Discusses golf carts, stating that they "should be kept a minimum of 9 meters (30 feet) from tees and greens...[and] the golfers should never be allowed to take their own cart." Concludes that "staying ahead of potential problems through effective traffic management and golfer education is key."
