Abstract/Contents: | "Plots were established on a uniformly growing turf area along an east facing wall on the campus of Colorado Sate University, Fort Collins, Colo. Plots were 12 by 10 ft, arranged in a randomized somplete block design with 4 replicates. treatments were applied 11 Apr, in early afternoon approximately 4 h after mowing. Treatments were parayed using hand-operated compressed-air sprayers delivering 2 qt fluid/plot (4.2 gal/1000 ft2). Evaluations were made 48 h after application with a D-vac suction sampler (1-ft-diam opening). Six samples were taken from each plot. Both the soap and the oil treatment significantly reduced clover mite populations giving control of 68% and 78%, respectively. Winter grain mites appeared to be less well controlled, but a more clumped distribution of this species made control determinations difficult. No phytotoxicity was observed." |
