Abstract/Contents:Discusses back-lapping stating that the "goal when back-lapping is not so much to mate two surfaces or edges. It is to maintain the sharpness of the edges." Notes that there are "four important factors that [one needs] to consider before [one attempts] to back-lap," including dullness of reel, relief, last time backlapping, and procedure. Concludes that "in order to have an effective back-lapping maintenance practice, [one] must maintain the original equipment manufacturer's specifications and maintain a relief angle."
