Abstract/Contents:"Two benzimidazole fungicides, thiabendazole and benomyl, were evaluated against Helminthosporium leafspot and crown rot, Sclerotinia dollar spot, Rhizoctonia brown patch, and red thread diseases of turfgrass. Effectiveness of these materials was compared with standard fungicides such as maneb and zimeb for Helminthosporium leafspot and crown rot control and mercurous-mercuric chloride mixture for Sclerotinia dollar spot and Rhizoctonia brown patch control. Experimental designs for both experiments were split-plot randomized block plans. The benzimidazole materials provided excellent control of dollar spot, but almost no control of Helminthosporium leafspot and crown rot. Benomyl provided good control of red thread and Rhizoctonia brown patch, but thiabendazole provided only fair control of these diseases. In general, benomyl was effective at lower equivalent dosages and longer spray intervals than thiabendazole on the basis of the formulations tested."
