| Abstract/Contents: | "This is an account of the experience gained over a period of ten years concerning the public golf link established by the city of Düsseldorf. This link is open to the public, i.e. anyone can play golf. In 1978, when the golf link was opened, it was frequented by altogether 15,000 visitors, by 1987 this number had increased to 32,500. The golf link is located near the banks of the Rhine and is flooded almost every year. In such a situation, special characteristics of the soil structure and of the fertilization of the greens are called for as well as special management measures, after the water has withdrawn. The 'model Düsseldorf' shows that even with comparatively low entrance fees financial surpluses can nonwithstanding be achieved." Exact data is also given pertaining to the specifics of the course, such as its total land area, the construction of its greens, fairways, roughs and tees, the kinds and percentages of grasses planted, the specific nature of its maintenance, the types and amounts of fertilizers used, as well as its budget and earnings. |
