| Abstract/Contents: | Evaluates "the development of a bowling green co-ordinated by the STRI [Sports Turf Research Institute] The project was different in that the growing-in principles favoured [favored] the development of fescues." Discusses the construction and long-term aims of the Dunmow Bowling Club in laying the green and summarizes the general maintenance involved in 2008. States that "the main advantages to be drawn from this project can be summarised [summarized] as follows: "Better playing conditions"; "a free-draining playing surface"; "lower fertiliser [fertilizer] costs"; "lower reliance on chemicals"; "no weeds"; "better sward composition"; "lower water costs"; "better water efficiency"; "capable of withstanding higher usage levels"; and "a better ability to cope with unusual weather patterns." |
