| Abstract/Contents: | "Several previous experiments in the Netherlands have shown that the use of oxamyl greatly enhances grass establishment in a range of soil types but where pH was usually low. The present work was done to assess the impact of oxamyl on a high pH soil and also to test the efficacy of a number of formulations of the chemical including standard, quick and slow release granules and to compare them with two fungicide treatments. The liquid formulations and the (expensive) controlled release granules used seem to offer no advantage over standard granular formulations. All treatments, except benomyl + captofol but including the fungicide thiram, have a nematostatic effect although, with the exception of thiram, nematodes are not killed by them. If seedlings are protected from the onslaught of nematodes for around three weeks, probably they will be able to withstand attack after that time. Nematode numbers were not reduced by any treatment, but the probable check in their activities by all treatments except benomyl and captofol likely explains the efficacy of the chemical applications." |
