| Abstract/Contents: | "Rhizoctonia isolates associated with damage observed on Kentucky bluegrass in Michigan in the spring and fall were obtained from diseased plants and thatch. When isolates were inoculated onto 'Fylking' Kentucky bluegrass to determine pathogenicity, more damage occurred at 20 C and 15 C. These isolated were binucleate and exhibited right angle branching. On potato dextrose agar the mycelia were tan in color and grew closely appressed to the agar surface. Pathogenicity and fungal characterization evidence from this study indicates that the cool season damage on Kentucky bluegrass was caused by Rhizoctonia cerealis, the causal agent of Yellow Patch. Studies on host range and fungicidal control of Yellow Patch on Kentucky bluegrass are in progress." |
