Abstract/Contents:"Plots of rough bluegrass (Poa trivialis L.) overseeded 'TifDwarf' and 'TifEagle' bermudagrass (Cynodon transvaalensis Burtt-Davy ^D#x C. dactylon (L.) Pers.) greens were sprayed with fungicides during spring transition in 2002 and 2003. Fungicides were applied three times at labeled rates on a 21 day schedule beginning at the first signs of bermudagrass green up. Plots were visually rated every 7 days for turf quality, density and disease severity until summer. Significant improvements in turf quality and turf density were noted but with no obvious disease control with several broad spectrum fungicides and fungicide combinations. The tank mix Aliette Signature (fosetyl-Al) + Fore Rainshield (mancozeb) at 0.98 g and 1.95 g a. i. M-2, respectively, caused the greatest, earliest and longest lasting improvements in turf quality and density followed closely by Fore Rainshield + 3336F (thiophanate methyl) at 1.95 g and 0.84 g a. i. M-2, respectively. Pythium-specific fungicides Subdue Maxx (metalaxyl), Aliette (fosetyl-Al), and Vital (phosphonate) caused infrequent, minor and ephemeral improvements in turf quality and density. These results suggest fungicides may have a considerable effect on improvement of turf density common to overseeded bermudagrass putting greens during spring transition, but the role of Pythium spp. is minor."
