Abstract/Contents:"Novozymes Biologicals received EPA registration for Bacillus licheniformis SB 3086 in February 2003. This strain is the active ingredient of EcoGuard and was tested on 3 key turf diseases at various university sites in 2003. EcoGuard has been positioned as a product to be used as part of a disease management program with the primary target disease being dollar spot (Sclerotinia homeocarpa). Stand alone control with EcoGuard controlled lowmoderate dollar spot pressure in the 80-90% range at 7 day application interval. In 2003 testing extended to anthracnose (Colletotrichum graminicola) and brown patch (Rhizoctonia solani). EcoGuard also showed significant control (up to 70-80%) of anthracnose and brown patch. These results reinforce current use recommendations of using this product at low-moderate disease pressure, but not at high disease pressures. 2004 trials will focus on rotations with EcoGuard and various other chemistries on these and possibly several other diseases."
