Abstract/Contents:"XRM-5018, a premix formulation containing 0.38 lb of clopyralid and 2.0 lb of 2,4-D per gallon, was evaluated for Canada thistle control on roadside rights-of-way in Indiana, Kentucky, and Iowa and for musk thistle control in Indiana. Foliar treatments included both high colume spot-spraying with 0.5-2.0% (v/v) solutions and broadcast applications of {.33-1.33 gal/A of XRM-5018. Tank mixes with chlorsulfuron (0.125-0.5 oz/A) were also evaluated in one Canada thistle trial. First-year results indicated that broadcast rates of less than 0.5 gal/A did not provide acceptable control of Canada thistle under the drought conditions encountered during the spring of 1988. Application rates of 0.5-1.33 gal/A provided 72-98% control, depending upon location. Tank mixes with chlorsulfuron slightly improved control of Canada thistle. High volume foliar sprays of 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0%herbicide provided 88-96%control of Ccanada thistle. Broadcast rates of XRM-5018 at 0.67, 1.0 and 1.33 gal/A provided 99-100% control of musk thistle. High volume treatments of 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5% herbicide solution controlled both rosette and bolted musk thistles."
