Abstract/Contents: | An infrared thermometer heat sensor was used to monitor the surface temperatures of when air temperatures were 105 F. Bare, dry soil showed 145 F, just slightly below the surface temperature of asphalt. Gravel was similar to asphalt. Turfgrass and leaf surface temperatures measured only 95 F, ten degrees cooler than the air temp. and forty degrees cooler than bare soil. |
