Abstract/Contents:Profiles monosodium methylarsonate (MSMA), a "widely used post-emergent herbicide for summer weed control in bermudagrass turf...The United States Environmental Protection Agency [EPA] has limited the use of MSMA in turf until December 31, 2013, when all use will be prohibited." Describes four possible pre-emergent herbicidal alternatives for summer weed control, including Dithiopyr, Oxadiazon, Pendimethalin, and Quinclorac. States that these herbicides "were applied to dormant 'Tifway' bermudagrass in mid-March and their effects on root architecture (surface area, length and mass) were evaluated and compared to an un-treated control." Concludes that Pendimethalin reduced the average root length and surface area of weeds most significantly.
