Abstract/Contents:Responds to a a question concerning the spread of a parasitic wasp due to the planting of Turkey oak, stating that "the wasp needs both Turkey Oak (Quercus cerris) and native oak (Quercus robur) to survive - one generation lives within the acorns of native oak, and then the next generation lives within the male flowers of Turkey Oak...The removal of Turkey oak trees is not usually deemed necessary as the adult wasps can fly long distances between trees and Turkey oak is quite widely planted." Concludes that "in the future, the club should look to plant native oak in preference to Turkey oak as this will support native invertebrates and will be more in keeping with the surrounding woodland."
