Abstract/Contents:"A golf green in Greenwich, Connecticut was treated to evaluate NatureCur (formerly known as Root RX) for two consecutive years. The green was approximately 84 years old and consisted of a 70:30 mixture of annual bluegrass and creeping bentgrass. Sand top-dressing over the years resulted in approximately 4 in. of sandy soil. Mechanical analysis of the top 4 in. showed it to be 95% sand, 3.4% silt, and 1.6% clay. USDA criteria classify this soil as a sand. NatureCur is a proprietary botanical extract from Juglans niger. During 2007 NatureCur was applied with a 2.5 gal watering can at the rate of 28 fl oz/1,000 sq ft in 55 gal water/1,000 sq ft. This rate represented approximately 3800 ppm active ingredient. Five applications were made on: 5 May, 3 Jun, 8 Jul, 11 Aug and 22 Sep. 2007. The treatment and control were replicated six times (plots were 6 ft x 6 ft) and completely randomized. In 2008, the treatments were applied to the same plots in the same way as in 2007 but at a rate of approximately7400 ppm in 110 gal water/1,000 sq ft. In 2008, four applications were made on: 6 May, 23 May, 27 Jun and 1 Aug. Soil was sampled by removing 10, 1 x 4 in. soil cores per plot and bulking together. Nematodes were recovered by wet sieving/sugar flotation and identified to genus. Criconemoid (ring), Tylenchorhynchus (stunt) , helicotylenchus (spiral) and meloidogyne (root-knot) nematodes were assessed. The data were subjected to analysis of variance. There were no differences in turf color or thinning among the treatments. There were no significant differences in nematode populations between the NatureCur treatment and the control."
