Abstract/Contents:"The experiment was conducted at the Valentine Turfgrass Research Center, University Park, PA, on colonial bentgrass maintained under golf course fairway management conditions, mowed three times per week at 0.5-in. cutting height. The soil was Hagerstown silt loam with pH 6.7. The experimental turf area was fertilized with 1.0 lb nitrogen (IBDU) and 1.0 lb nitrogen (18-9-18) and per 1,000 sq ft on 5 Jun. Scimitar (7.5 fl oz/A) was applied for cutworms on 8 May. Additionally, 1.0 lb nitrogen (Urea 46-0-0) was applied on 16 Jul prior to peak period of brown patch activity. Treatment plots, 3 ft x 6 ft, were arranged in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Applications were made with a CO2-powered sprayer, using a TeeJet 11008E nozzle, at 40 psi, in water equivalent to 2 gal per 1,000 sq ft. The 14-day treatments were applied on 4 and 18 Jun, and 2 and 18 Jul, and 21-day treatments on 4 and 25 Jun, and 16 Jul. Dollar spot incidence (number of necrotic spots per 18 sq ft plot) was assessed once on 25 Jul. Data were subjected to analysis of variance and multiple comparisons of the mean values were made using the Waller-Duncan k-ratio test. Dollar spot development in the colonial bentgrass turf area was low to moderate during early summer; however, incidence of dollar spot increased dramatically later in the season. High incidence of dollar spot was noted in the untreated control plots. Several fungicides provided significant suppression of the disease, and some of them provided good to excellent control. No dollar spot developed in the plots treated with a Banner MAXX, Concert, Headway, Emarald, 26/36, Chipco 26GT, and Insignia. Additionally, very little dollar spot was evident in the plots treated with Trinity, Dew Cure, and Insignia. No phytotoxicity was observed in any of the treatment plots during the course of the experiment."
