Abstract/Contents:"The The experiment was conducted at the Valentine Turfgrass Research Center, University Park, PA, on a sward of creeping bentgrass maintained under golf course fairway management conditions. The turfgrass was mowed three times per week at 0.5-in. cutting height. The soil was a Hagerstown silt loam with pH 6.8. The experimental turf area was fertilized with 0.25 lb nitrogen (Urea) on 25 April, and, 1.0 lb nitrogen (IBDU) and 1.0 lb nitrogen (18-9-18) per 1,000 sq ft on 5 Jun. Additionally, the turf area was treated with Trimec (1 fl oz/1000 sq ft) on 27 May to control weeds. Treatment plots, 3 ft x 6 ft, were arranged in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Treatments were applied with a CO2-powered sprayer, using a TeeJet 11008E nozzle at 40 psi, in water equivalent to 2 gal per 1,000 sq ft. Applications were made on 5 and 19 Jun, and 3, 17 and 31 Jul for the 14-day interval schedule, 5 and 26 Jun, and 17 Jul for the 21-day interval schedue, and 5 Jun, and 3 and 31 Jul for the 28-day interval schedule. Disease incidence (number of necrotic spots per 3 ft x 6 ft plot.) was assessed on 18 and 25 Jun, 2, 9, 16, and 25 Jul. Data were subjected to analysis of variance and multiple comparisons of the mean values were made using the Waller-Duncan k-ratio test. Environmental conditions were moderately warm and relative humidity was moderate to high which provided highly conducive conditions for dollar spot development. Disease incidence on the creeping bentgrass stands was relatively high and the spatial distribution of the disease was fairly uniform over the experimental turf area; therefore, no inoculation was required. Symptoms initially developed in mid-June and disease incidence notably increased from 18 Jun to 25 Jul for consecutive several weeks. In the first assessment of the disease on 18 Jun, no dollar spot developed in 25 of the 41 treatment plots. SARS-346 and SARS-351 at various rates and intervals, Daconil Ultrex alone and Daconil Ultrex tank-mixed with Medallion (14-day intervals), Banner MAXX alone and Banner MAXX tank-mixed with Medallion (21-day interval), Emerald applied at low and high rates at 14- and 21-day intervals, respectively, 26/36 at 21-day intervals, and Chipco 26GT at 14-day intervals provided highly satisfactory control of the disease. No phytotoxicity was observed in any of the treatment plots during the course of the experiment."
