Abstract/Contents:Discusses biological controls currently available: 1) Male sterilization, 2) Attractants like insect pheromones, 3) Hormones or their mimics like those recently introduced to control fleas and fire ants, 4) Insect parasites or predators, and 5) Bacterial diseases of insects. Photo-activated biochemicals are under investigation for control of several broadleaf weeds. Use of such biological chemicals and controls in an integrated pest management (IPM) program in the lawn turf management industry is considered.
