Abstract/Contents:Discusses the Turf Culture Institute and the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research in New Zealand during June of 1978, suggesting that "research is at the heart of all progress in turfgrass management." Implies that research loses its practical value without the Turf Culture Institute's "scientific extension teaching." Lists areas in which "further exploration in turfgrass research and management...[might] prove helpful," including New Zealand browntop breeding, changing pH (potential Hydrogen) values in chemicals, timing nutritional supplements, using Ethofumisate and Bensulide on Poa annua, and studying the physical properties of soils and sands. Highlights observations regarding the irrigation, mowing, fertilization, and equipment utilized on golf courses in New Zealand in 1978. Briefly describes conditions on bowling greens, cricket wickets, football fields, and croquet fields. Concludes by suggesting that the Turf Culture Institute "is the best possible avenue for improvement [through research]...and deserves annual support from all concerned organizations."
