Abstract/Contents:Discusses a way weedkillers are classified, focusing on contact, translocated, and residual chemicals. Briefly mentions the application of herbicides, stating that "within the range of chemicals discussed, there is considerable variation in the safety margin between the doses which control weeds and those which damage the turf." Emphasizes precautions to take with regard to the non-selective contact chemical paraquat, which "needs special care in handling as the concentrated material is highly poisonous and there is no satisfactory treatment [for it]." Mentions the possibility of herbicidal spray drift, explaining that it can cause a considerable amount of unintentional damage.
