Abstract/Contents:Discusses the effect of nematodes on Cotula greens, stating that "because nematodes are small, generally large populations are needed to produce obvious damage in crops and in many cases the primary damage is not visible to the naked eye." Presents a diagram showing the anatomical differences between earthworms and nematodes. States that "the superficial annules have no relation to other structures in the nematode." Presents a second diagram illustrating the relative sizes of several species of nematodes, including Xiphinema, Pratylenchus, Meloidogyne juvenile, and Helicotylenchus. Describes several potential means of control, mentioning two studies conducted in New Zealand during 1976 and 1977. Reports that "examination at the Havelock North Club in February 1977 yielded what seemed to be a distinct new 'fairy ring'...Initially there was a good agreement between Helicotylenchus numbers and damage. However, following Dasanit application the green has apparently recovered despite the apparent lack of control of nematodes." Concludes that "it is often unclear whether a given symptom, which may be a 'fairy ring', is due to nematodes or to fungi, or to a combination of both."
