Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the potential advantages and disadvantages of synthetic turf use, stating that "it has been said that the general requirements for synthetic recreation surfaces are that they should be better or at least equal to grass or other conventional surfaces." Focuses on the application of Uniturf and Rubkor to cricket wickets, stating that the former is "of the polyester plastic type laid on a concrete base," and the latter "is a coril-rubber-bitumen mix, laid on a concrete base." Notes as a general disadvantage to using synthetic turf: "artificial surfaces do not show the variation natural to turf. The ball flies true." Describes the potential abilities of each to withstand heavy traffic and weather, reporting that "as a playing surface, it would appear that with Rubkor there is a greater degree of assistance to the bowler." Concludes with the idea that the "artificial will never in total replace the natural." |
