Abstract/Contents:Presents a discussion of the nature and composition of a turfgrass community in relation to the behavior of pesticides applied to turfgrass areas. "In summary, the pesticide binding capacity of a turf is strongly related to the density and level of thatch development which is improved through proper fertilization and pest management. A healthy, dense turf maintained with minimal, but adequate nutrient and pesticide input provides a ground cover which reduces leaching and runoff. Rather than threatening environmental quality, the improved landscape quality achieved through judicious use of pesticides and nutrients can improve the quality of water emanating from a golf course compared to a poorly maintained course or other land uses."
