Abstract/Contents:Discusses turf maintenance education programs in the United States during the late 1970s, stating that "in 1977, there were 90 institutions in the U.S.A. [United States of America] offering turf management programmes [programs]. The majority of these courses were offered through Departments of Horticulture." Focuses on programs at Texas A&M (Agricultural and Mechanical) University, University of California, Davis, and Michigan State University (MSU). Highlights the two-year technical program offered at MSU during the 1970s, stating that "training provides the fundamentals of turfgrass technology necessary for the supervision and management of golf courses, parks, athletic fields, industrial grounds, highway roadsides and commercial lawn services." Presents a table regarding "the ranking of grouped projects extracted from the Agronomy Abstracts, 1975-77." Concludes that "although inflation and energy constraints have influenced the development of many programmes [programs], the paying public still appreciate the importance of turfgrass to sport, recreation and the environment."
