Abstract/Contents: | Presents an article by Cedric Smith, a member of the Royal New South Wales (N.S.W.) Bowling Association's Bowls Guidance Panel, that originally appeared in "Bowls in N.S.W." Emphasizes that none of the five bowling clubs in Edmonton, Canada, met the requirements for the Commonwealth Games, "both in technical terms and capacity for competition." Outlines the renovation process that subsequently was completed, stating that "each green [was] a basin consisting of a polyethylene sheet underlying piping to drain and allow sub-surface irrigation and fertilisation [fertilization] of the grass, which [was] planted in a sand base." Highlights the ability of a slow green to affect bowling detrimentally. Concludes that Smith's article "emphasizes the desirability of keeping greens well controlled by mowing not only when they are in play, but also during the period of preparation." |
