Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the persistence of Poa annua during the end of the 1970s in New Zealand. Suggests that Poa "is not the most comfortable thing to live with, but it sure beats having no grass at all." Describes the potential effect of Poa on playability. Emphasizes the possibility of compaction, stating that it "is one of the greatest problems in any kind of turfgrass growth, and over-irrigation and excessive rainfall [also] contribute to the problem significantly." Mentions the potential ability of shade to promote annual bluegrass growth. Presents suggestions on dealing with Poa annua, highlighting overseeding. States that "the broadcast method of overseeding usually does not lead to a significant improvement in the turfgrass stand, even over a period of many years." Explains the possible significance of applying pre-emergence herbicides prior to endothal, a post-emergent herbicide. |
