Abstract/Contents:Focuses on the relationship between horse trainers and racecourse managers, stating that "relationships between the course manager and the track user have become more and more difficult with the dramatic increase in the numbers of owner-trainers [in the late 1970s]." Highlights management practices during wet weather, suggesting that "it is virtually impossible to provide grass tracks as often as there are race meetings demanding them, and in the interests of trainers themselves some restriction must be imposed." Notes that "the excessive use of grass tracks causes...a fair amount of damage in very dry weather, and even though an irrigation system may be employed, shallow scuffing damage is not easy to mend." Reiterates the opinion that restrictions should be put on the use of grass tracks during winter and early spring.
