Abstract/Contents: | Briefly discusses the preparation of cricket wickets, detailing weather conditions and treatments used on a New Zealand wicket during a match that was played January 16-18, 1979. Describes the watering techniques used, stating that "during the first week of preparation the wicket was given a good soaking each night as there was no rain. This was a preliminary to rolling which continued daily for the two weeks...[until] the match." Mentions rolling, stating that "on the final day a light rolling only was given. By this time the surface was dry and hard and care had to be taken that cracking did not occur as might have happened with the heavy roller." |
