Abstract/Contents:Describes Cotula turf as "[belonging] to a genus of prostrate creeping plants native to New Zealand." Explains the history of Cotula, stating that "for many years Cotula greens were restricted to Otago and Southland but their virtues were soon recognised [recognized] throughout the country." Notes that there are about 80 species of the Cotula genus. Details the turf's natural habitat and emphasizes the use of Cotula dioica and Cotula maniototo. Mentions climatic conditions unsuitable for the turf, stating that "it also grows and survives well in inland areas such as Central Otago where rainfall is low...[and] winter temperatures are often below zero." Suggests potential advantages and disadvantages of Cotula greens. Outlines methods of establishment for new areas, as well as for the conversion of existing grass greens. Discusses general management, focusing on fertilization; watering; mowing; pest, disease, and weed control; coring; boring; and slicing. Highlights grooving in relation to annual renovation, recommending "grooving followed by soiling with sterilized soil at the end of the playing season." Concludes by considering methods of spring soiling.
