Abstract/Contents:Discusses turf disease prevention, defining turf disease as "abnormal growth." Focuses on poor soil conditions and their potential ability to cause shallow root systems. Suggests that "shade and poor air circulation will also produce areas of weak thin turf which are susceptible to disease attack." Mentions nitrogen fertility, stating that excessive levels "[can] result in the cell walls of the turf plants becoming thinner and so more prone to mechanical damage and attack by fungi." Concludes that "the prime requirements for the prevention of turf diseases are well-constructed free-draining greens, an adequate irrigation system, and a knowledgeable, observant, enthusiastic greenkeeper."
