Abstract/Contents: | Generally discusses the turf industry of the United States. Suggests that "the most significant gains achieved by the turfgrass industry in America have been in respectability." Describes the transition from maintenance by hand to maintenance by machine. Identifies four functional branches within the turfgrass industry: facilities, manufacturing, servicing, and institutional. Analyzes the human resources of the turfgrass industry, stating that there exist "seven categories of personnel utilization: professional, managerial, supervisory, technician, trainee, production manpower, and sales personnel. Briefly highlights histories of sod, fertilizer, pesticide, and equipment use. |
