Abstract/Contents: | Describes processes for sterilizing topdressing soil, identifying three potentially effective methods: gas, liquid, and powder treatments. Suggests that liquid and dry sterilants are "efficient if properly applied...They have the advantage over gas treatment in that the soil does not need to be sealed with a plastic sheet." Details the steps involved with two methods for sterilizing soil. Mentions the potential importance of wearing a face mask, rubber gloves, and goggles: "Methyl bromide is poisonous, and while no free gas should escape, an accident is always possible." |
