Abstract/Contents:Presents fescue trials conducted throughout the 1970s at Grasslands Division Department of Scientific and Industrial Research. Details methods, materials, and the system of ranking used during the experiments, stating that "factors examined were disease resistance, density, absence of dead matter, uniformity of growth, upright growth and fineness of leaves." Provides a table of overall fescue rankings, including several types of Chewings, creeping, spreading, and hard fescues. Reports that Chewings and creeping fescues "are very similar in density and growth forms. Creeping fescue however is more susceptible to red thread...disease, while Chewings is more susceptible to leaf spot...disease." Concludes that "the use of fescues bred to exhibit desirable features...disease resistance, good colour [color], density, is to be encouraged."
